A woman has sued the company behind Oprah Winfrey's TV chat show, claiming she was injured when audience members rushed to find seats at a recording.
Orit Greenberg has demanded $50,000 (£25,100) in damages after allegedly being pushed down a flight of stairs.
She said this caused her "severe and permanent injuries" and claimed the crowd in the studio was not properly controlled by Harpo Studios staff.
The production company declined to comment on her allegations.
Harpo Studios told the Associated Press it did not make statements about impending legal cases.
Ms Greenberg claimed she was hurt in December 2006 while attending a recording of the programme in the US city of Chicago.
Audience members were told to sit wherever they wanted, which led to the rush, according to the legal documents she has filed.

For three years, a Bush-hating Vermont pipe carver has built a million-dollar business around the digits "01.20.09."
On Jan. 20, 2009 -- one year from today -- Elliot Nachwalter and his company, "Bush's Last Day," will have to find new inspiration.
That's the day President George W. Bush leaves the White House.
"I have a couple little products lined up. Both of them have nothing to do with politics," Nachwalter said. "I'd like to think this time we won't have to do another end-of-term button."
First doodled on a dining room table, then slapped onto lapel buttons, "01.20.09" has become wildly popular.
"It was like a bulb, a light went off," said Nachwalter, who drew it in a fit of pique prompted by Bush's refusal to sign a piece of environmental legislation. "I started giving them out to my friends and anybody who thought it was interesting, and I couldn't have enough of them. I said 'Maybe I should think about selling them.'"
Now, more than 600 businesses across the country sell the T-shirts, buttons, bumper stickers and other products that proclaim "01.20.09," some with the subtext "Bush's Last Day" and "Earth, Water, Air." The Internet has spread the message -- and the products -- globally.
"The Web site became like a cult thing. Everybody would send it to their mailing list and things started to grow pretty rapidly," Nachwalter said.
"01.20.09" has appeared in movies, on late-night television shows -- even on a Humvee in Iraq. Meanwhile, "Bush's Last Day" countdown key chains tick off the days, hours, minutes and seconds until Bush's era ends at the White House.
Nachwalter started out in a closet, but quickly outgrew his space. Now, he and six employees work 16-hour days filling orders out of a Manchester industrial park.
The product line has grown as well. There are refrigerator magnets, coffee mugs, golf balls, greeting cards, even "Fire Bush Hot Sauce" and dog treats called "Bush Biskits."
Donna Tsitsikaos, a spokeswoman for America, a gift store chain with 17 retail outlets in the Washington, D.C., area and New Jersey, said five of the chain's best-selling products with political themes came from Bush's Last Day.
America started selling the Bush's Last Day key chains. Now, it sells 12 Bush's Last Day items.
"We've been thrilled. It'll continue to be in our lineup through the rest of 2008," Tsitsikaos said. "We're hoping the company will come up with something creative after this product goes out of style."
Renee Carl, a left-wing political activist from Washington, said she sees a lot of the "01.20.09" bumper stickers in her Washington neighborhood. She has one on her refrigerator. She has sent them as presents in birthday cards.
"We think everyone doing work thinking toward a new progressive administration is doing great work," said Carl.

weird facts(AP) A Swedish university has received 3.8 million kronor $590,000) in research funds to measure the greenhouse gases released when cows belch.
About 20 cows will participate in the project run by the Swedish University for Agricultural Sciences in Uppsala, about 40 miles north of Stockholm, officials said Monday.
Cattle release methane, a greenhouse gas believed to contribute to global warming, when they digest their food. Researchers believe the level of methane released depends on the type of food the eat.
Project leader Jan Bertilsson said that the cows involved in the study will have different diets and wear a collar device measuring the methane level in the air around them.
"This type of research is already being conducted in Canada so we will be in contact with Canadian agricultural researchers in the near future," he said.
The research will be funded by a grant from the government's Swedish Research Council for Environment, Agricultural Sciences and Spatial Planning.

BARNSTABLE, Mass. - The luck keeps rolling for a convicted bank robber in Massachusetts who won a $1 million lottery prize.
Although he violated his probation by buying the ticket, a judge says he can keep the money.
A lawyer for Timothy Elliott, 55, called the violation minor, and the Massachusetts lottery commission previously said it saw no basis for withdrawing the prize.
Barnstable Superior Court Judge Richard Connon approved the probation department's agreement that he could keep the winnings. The only change is that Elliott now must pay a monthly $65 probation supervisory fee, previously waived because he had been indigent.
Elliott pleaded guilty in October 2006 to unarmed robbery for a Cape Cod bank heist and was placed on five years' probation. The terms required him to not "gamble, purchase lottery tickets or visit an establishment where gaming is conducted"
The jackpot was won on $10 ticket for the "$800 Million Spectacular" game that Elliott bought at a supermarket in Hyannis. He already has received the first of 20 annual $50,000 cheques from the lottery commission.

(AP) FRANKFORT, Ind. - Paul Brant considers himself a penny pincher, but his savings in quarters and dollar coins really paid off.
Brant, 70, used more than $25,000 in change to help buy a new Dodge Ram half-ton pickup truck Friday _ 13 years after buying another truck with spare change.
"(The old truck) didn’t have four-wheel drive, and living in the country, I figured I better get a new one to help get me through the snow," he said.
Brant said he was raised to be thrifty. His father always paid in cash and saved up loose change to take vacations.
Brant has been storing his change for years, and estimated he had about $26,000 in coins for Friday’s purchase. In 1994, he bought a Dodge pickup and a Dodge Neon using about $36,000 in quarters.
"As long as you don’t put your hands back in the till, it really adds up," he said.
Brant stored his change in coffee cans, water jugs and piggy banks over the years, and was escorted by sheriff’s deputies as he brought the rolled coins to the dealership.
A Mike Raisor Chrysler Dodge and Jeep employee who sold Brant the truck said the dealership called in an armored car to count and handle the coins.
"No bank wants to take them," Keith Gephart said.

TORONTO (Reuters) - A Canadian oil-field worker, stunned to get a C$85,000 ($83,700) cell phone bill, has had the charges reduced to C$3,400, but is still fighting them.
Piotr Staniaszek, a 22-year-old oil and gas well tester in rural northwest Alberta, became a figure of international media attention this week when his father went to the press to complain about the size of his son's bill.
Staniaszek's father, also named Piotr Staniaszek, said his son thought he could use his new phone as a modem for his computer as part of his C$10 unlimited browser plan from Bell Mobility, a division of Bell Canada.
He downloaded movies and other high-resolution files unaware of the charges they would incur.
"He's working in the field sometimes, alone, in the shack. What to do? Drink vodka or go on the Internet?" Staniaszek senior told Reuters on Thursday from Calgary, Alberta.
"Now it's $85,000 and nobody told him," he said.
According to his invoice, the son rang up C$60,000 in charges in November, and they have since climbed to C$85,000.
Staniaszek senior said Bell has agreed to reduce the charges to C$3,400 for "goodwill".
"It's still high...Who can afford it?" he said, adding his son can barely make payments on a new truck he bought for work, and will continue to fight the charges.
A Bell spokesman said the plan is not intended for downloading files to a computer, and that's clear in his contract.
Staniaszek said his son did not want to talk to the press after the interest his story has received and that he is afraid to use his cell phone and incur more long-distance charges.

NEW YORK -- One hundred million pennies for your thoughts on the latest display in Rockefeller Center. New York first lady Silda Wall Spitzer joined hundreds of public school children on Monday to unveil a mass of $1 million in pennies collected for charity. The display, called the Penny Harvest Field, includes an estimated 100 million pennies - plus a few nickels, dimes and quarters that slipped in by mistake.
The exhibit, 30 feet by 165 feet, as long as a city block, is the culmination of the nonprofit organization Common Cents' 17th annual Penny Harvest, a national educational program designed to teach children about their value as contributors to society. Hundreds of thousands of city students from more than 800 schools spent the weeks between Oct. 22 and Thanksgiving going door to door and collecting the pennies, which will be donated to organizations of their choice for causes such as protecting the environment and helping the elderly.
The exhibit was designed by architect James Polshek and will be on display in Rockefeller Center, near the famous Christmas tree, through the end of the year.

A Cobb County man got a letter from his bank with that very shocking news.“And I open up the letter and I look at it and I’m like, ‘No, you’ve got to be kidding me,’ said Joe Martins.Martins said he recently closed an account at Wachovia Bank and made good on an outstanding check.
He just got a letter about the closure and his negative balance -- $211,010,028,257,303.00. That’s $211 trillion.The letter includes the clarification, “no cents.”“I didn’t know what to think. Obviously $211 trillion is a little above what I put in my bank account,” said Martins.$211 trillion is more than 70 times the entire federal budget.Still, the letter said Wachovia was reporting him to an agency that rates risky bank customers.
“I don’t own $211 trillion but because it is automated and reported to check systems, I assume it will be reported to my credit at some point,” said Martins.He said Wachovia had made mistakes on his accounts before so he called Channel 2 first. Wachovia blamed the letter on a word processing error and the office of the president is sending a letter of apology.
“They tell me it’s going to be resolved but I’m not sure that it will,” said Martins. “I closed my account today.”Since it is a closed account it is now safe to say the dollar figure in the letter matched the account number.Martins said Wachovia told him late Friday afternoon they never did report him for his negative balance.
Wachovia vice president David Oliver told Channel 2, “We can certainly understand how our recent correspondence with Mr. Martins about his account would be cause for great concern. I can confirm that there will be no adverse effect on Mr. Martins’ credit report related to the letter he received. Also, I can confirm that this was an isolated error specifically related to his account.”

SALT LAKE CITY — There are probably a million ways Jerry Mika could spend $2 million dollars. Trouble is, he couldn't cash the check. Expecting a $15 refund from the Utah Department of Commerce, the Draper man opened his mail recently to find a $2,245,342 check.
"I kept trying to find a way to make it legitimate so I could cash it," he said. "I did think about all the things I could do with the money ... who wouldn't?"
Mika returned the check - a mistake that occurred when an employee entered a serial number, not an amount - to state finance offices Wednesday.
"Clearly we have an honest, honest citizen. I wish I could do something more than say thanks," commerce department director Francine Giani said.
Giani said the state will implement additional internal controls to catch such mistakes in the future. A new computer system, which only requires entering the amount of a check once, might have contributed to the problem, she said.
Mika, who runs the nonprofit Providence Foundation to help Nepalese sherpas, said he's had great fun showing off the state's mistake.
"Everybody looked at it, started giggling and asked why I wasn't already in Switzerland," he said.
He admits to being tempted to deposit the money and draw a bit interest before the state asked for its return.
"That money would have gone a long way," he said.
But ultimately honestly and the idea of spending time at the Utah state prison made Mika too nervous to do anything.
Because the check was state-issued, cashing it would probably have been easy, despite the large amount, Giani said.
"It was a valid check," said Rick Beckstead, the state accounting operation manager whose signature is stamped on the check. "But it would have been caught when we did reconciliation and we would have been after him for the refund."

Weird Facts: Butterfly Naming Rights Go For 40K

A butterfly species discovered in a Florida museum has a new name after an anonymous bidder paid $40,800 for naming rights in order to honor a woman who died in 1972.
The butterfly's common name will be the Minerva owl butterfly. It's being named after the late Margery Minerva Blythe Kitzmiller of Malvern, Ohio.
While the bidder's name was not disclosed, the payment was made on behalf of Kitzmiller's grandchildren.
The butterfly's scientific name will be Opsiphanes blythekitzmillerae.
University of Florida researchers George Austin and Andrew Warren discovered the new species while looking through a butterfly collection at the Florida Museum of Natural History in Gainesville earlier this year. They found it was misidentified as an example of another species.
The 4-inch butterfly is brown, white and black and lives in Sonora, a Mexican state bordering Arizona. Proceeds from the auction will go toward further research of Mexican butterflies.
Beverly Sensbach, director of development for the museum, said Kitzmiller's grandchildren wanted to honor her through the name of a beautiful butterfly because she was "an extremely creative person who wrote poetry, played piano and sang."
The rights were sold via an online auction. Warren had said before the auction closed that the researchers were hoping to raise at least $50,000, which would fund two years of work in Mexico.

Weird Facts: Stolen, Dumped, Found, Sold: The Story of a $1m Painting
A painting stolen 20 years ago then found lying in a pile of rubbish on a New York City street has sold at auction for just over $1m (£484,000).
The 1970 painting Tres Personajes (Three People) by Mexican artist Rufino Tamayo was taken from a warehouse where the owners had placed it while moving.
It was found by Elizabeth Gibson as she took her morning walk four years ago on Manhattan's Upper West Side.
After discovering the painting's value, she returned it to its original owner.
It sold for $1,049,000 (£507,900) to a telephone bidder at Sotheby's New York auction house.
Sotheby's describes the painting as an important work from Rufino Tamayo's mature period.
Elizabeth Gibson said she was drawn to the painting when she spotted it on the street.
"I know nothing of modern art but it didn't seem right for any piece of art to be discarded like that," she said.
It hung on a wall in her home for several months before a friend suggested it might be valuable.
An internet search revealed that the missing painting had been the subject of an appeal for information on the Antiques Roadshow TV programme.
Ms Gibson has already received a $15,000 reward the couple put up when it was stolen, plus an undisclosed percentage of the sale of the painting.
It is still not known how the painting ended up on the street.
The owners - a couple from Houston whose names have not been disclosed - bought the oil on canvas, with marble dust and sand worked into the paint, in 1977 at Sotheby's.
August Uribe, Sotheby's senior vice-president of impressionist and modern art, said that the husband had paid $55,000 for it as a gift for his wife. The husband later died.
At the time of the theft in 1987, the couple alerted local and federal authorities.
Information on the painting was posted on the databases of the International Foundation for Art Research, and the Art Loss Register.
The FBI is still investigating the theft.

Weird Facts: Hitler's Globe Sold For For $100,000
SAN FRANCISCO weird facts - A globe that once belonged to Adolf Hitler has sold at auction for $100,000 -- more than five times the expected amount. More Weird Facts:
American soldier John Barsamian found the globe in the ruins of Hitler's Eagle's Nest retreat in the Bavarian Alps in May 1945.
Barsamian, now 91, of Oakland, recently decided to sell it while he is alive so he can personally tell the story behind it, said his son, Barry Barsamian. Both Barsamians watched the bidding Tuesday at Greg Martin Auctions.
The winning bid came from San Francisco entrepreneur Bob Pritikin.
Experts had estimated the item would only bring $15,000 to $20,000.
Other globes presumed to have been owned by Hitler have been extensively researched for authenticity. But there is no uncertainty about the origins of Barsamian's wartime trophy, since he had all the military paperwork that allowed him to bring it back to the United States, including a certificate that reads "1 Global Map, German, Hitler's Eagle Nest."
"This is probably the most airtight documentation I've run across in some time," Greg Martin, proprietor of the auction house, said before the sale. "We have pictures of the guy there at the time, standing in the ruins holding the globe like a newborn baby."

Yes, that's a thousand bucks for a single bagel.
So what do you get for your money?
The bagel is topped with Alba white truffle cream cheese and goji berry infused Riesling jelly with golden leaves.
The white truffle, which is known for its one-of-a-kind aroma, is the second most expensive food in the world, next to caviar, and is very hard to come by. So hard, in fact, that it's grown from late autumn to winter beneath certain oak trees in the Alba region of Italy, where trained pigs and dogs are called upon to find the delicacies.
"I wanted to create something that speaks to New York, and is also a reflection of my culinary passion for seasonality and fine ingredients," Tujague said in a statement. "Bagels are a New York food landmark, which is where the base for this dish came from. White truffles are a simple, quality ingredient that takes the meal, or the bagel in this case, to the next level."
The goji berries are also lauded for their health benefits, as they're the richest known source of beta-carotene of all known foods or plants on earth, and are demonstrated to be a healing catalyst.
Tujague created the delicacy to raise money for the Les Amis d'Escoffier Scholarship, which benefits culinary arts students.
"We wanted this bagel to be more than an over-the-top seasonal menu item. By giving back a portion of the proceeds, we are inspiring future chefs to think outside the box and maximize culinary creativity," said Tujague.
But you better act fast, the luxurious bagel is only available through Dec. 14. And if you're worried about tax and gratuity -- don't worry, that's included in the price.
The $1,000 bagel must be ordered 24-hours in advance.
